Did you check out the forum listing? The car definitely appears to have been painstakingly cared for.

If I was getting a BMW, for that price I’d buy an E36 M3 with equal or less mileage. Is the ZHP package for the E46 really that desirable?

Oooooohhhhh. Me like. No clue on whether that price is right but that looks like a really nice example. It does seem like they’re unloading it right after rebuilding it, which is odd, but not a deal breaker.

Yes and no. It’s the Diet M3 you can get as a Sedan. I think I would only get one as a sedan because, you’re right, you can probably get into an m3 for similar money. Manual ZHP sedans tend to go for the most money of the ZHP flavors. I have yet to drive one, but I rode in one circa 2005, and it was amazing to me. I feel like it’s a marked improvement over a standard 330i, but the M3 is better, if you’re looking at it from a performance standpoint. ZHP will be somewhat cheaper to maintain though.

Yes I did and I thought “thank god I’m not the only one who’s nuts enough to remove the seats for proper cleanings.”

I think the advantage of a ZHP over an M3 is that, while it does have some unique stuff, ALL the parts aren’t special. When you look up BMW parts, it’s always, “10mm washer, except M3: $.05 / M3 only: $49.95” so you get a car that’s greater than the sum of its parts, without the M3 tax on all those parts. I dunno, just my $.02 ($200.00 for M3).

That’s a good point, lots of folks might want a performance-oriented sedan 3-series, and the E46 M3 didn’t offer that.

Ah, I never thought about that. I bet service costs over the lifetime ends up being far cheaper than an M3, even an E36 M3.

Actually, I thought it was $10,900 or whatever from the title pic. But at $14,500... yeah that’s a lot. For a car that’s already had a panel resprayed due to rust. I know it’s mechanically excellent, but rust... oh rust. How long till it appears somewhere else? Or in the same area?

Yeah, fourteen grand is a good chunk of cash. You can buy an E36 M3 in very, very nice shape for that kind of dough.

Yeah, rust is probably an issue elsewhere on this car. The seller seems forthcoming, so he probably doesn’t even know it’s rusty. But where I live in New England EVERYTHING is rusty, dealing with rust is just part of owning a car.
